Clarke’s Bookshop has been trading in Long Street since 1957. The ground floor is dedicated to new books on South Africa, covering everything from politics, history, biography, fiction, cookery, children’s books and natural history.
Some of the shop’s main interests are South African art, photography, and architecture – with a large selection of monographs, catalogues, and artists’ books. Upstairs you’ll find two rooms filled with general secondhand books, and in a third room you’ll find antiquarian and collectible books, mostly Southern African.
Clarke’s also has an impressive collection of African maps and prints, and stocks some fiction and non-fiction books from the rest of the continent.
Night shopping opening hours: 5pm – 7:30pm (5, 12 + 19 December)
